We have all seen them, sometimes on prime time commercials and tv spots (and of course in our own work. I'm talking about gradient steps or gradient banding, where a color gets lighter or darker but leaves noticeable "bands" or "steps" between each. This often happens with lighting effects and backgrounds. I recently saw a large insurance company's ad on TV with this problem.

ONE EASY TRICK GETS RID OF IT!!
When you are ready to render: Add an Adjustment Layer, then add NOISE. Leave it as color noise and at around 4-5%. When you render to PHOTOJPG it will come out looking just like you need it to, perfect!

Pass this trick on and make sure you visit me on FACEBOOK.

So what's the deal with this SWAT shoot? I have been asked this several times....so I will get you in the loop!

Ridgeline Creative along with being a corporate, visual effects and short film production video company are producers of After Effects projects, Tutorials and Stock video.

You can check out our profile on REVOSTOCK HERE.

We are currently starting a company called "RidgeStock" or RidgeStock.com that will launch by May 1st, 2010. Here we will feature collection based media for purchase. For instance, if you are looking for some "SWAT TEAM" video you can go to a website such as ISTOCK (We also sell clips here) and purchase a single file for around $50.....Or, you can buy our "SWAT COLLECTION" which includes pre-keyed clips, composited clips ready for use like the one below as well as live action shots as we used to put together "RUN".

THE BEST PART IS...we charge between $200-$500 for the entire collection (Around 40 clips!) all completely royalty free, or you can buy them for $50-$70/per clip on stock resellers.

Well, that basically sums it up!

Post processing is a pretty tricky thing sometimes. I took our greenscreen clip of the two swat guys and masked out the edges of the screen. From here I keyed in after effects using Keylight.

When I am compositing it always comes down to two things; realistic lighting effects and color matching. For the lighting in this scene I used Video Copilot's Optical flares to add some glow. For the color grading I took down all the saturation and used Magic Bullet Looks.
